PROF. FELIKS WIDERA

He graduated from the Vocal Faculty of the Academy of Music and from the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice.  He is a valued tenor with significant artistic achievements. He has  been affiliated to the Silesian Opera for over 40 years now.  In 1996 he was awarded the title of “Favourite Singer” by his audience.  His repertoire covers over 50 opera and operetta parts, oratorios and  songs,  including: Nemorin in Love Potion by G. Donizetti,  Alfred in Traviata, Ismael in Nabucco by G. Verdi, Tamin in The Magic Flute, Ferrand in Cosi  fan tutte by W. A. Mozart, Stefan in The Haunted Manor by S. Moniuszko, Shuysky in Boris Godunov by M. Musorgsky, Barinkay in The Gypsy Baron (over 270 performances in four different adaptations!), Eisenstein in The Bat by J. Strauss (over 200 performances), Count Danilo Danilovitsch in The Merry Widow by F. Lehar.

He is the author of independent concert and open air performances, e.g. Midsummer Night’s in Bytom (The Gypsy Baron, Halka, Nabucco, The Gypsy Princess, The Haunted Manor), or  The Adam Didur Festival in Sanok (Halka, The Haunted Manor).  He is also the author of text adaptations in the original language of The Gypsy Baron, The Bat and The Magic Flute for the purposes of touring performances. 

For a few season he was cooperating on permanent basis with the Kraków Opera, Wrocław Opera and the Silesian Operetta.  He went on foreign tour of the Silesian Opera (Italy, the USA, Canada, The Federal Republic of Germany, Portugal).  He gave concerts in prestigious concert halls of Frankfurt, the Berlin von Karajan  Philharmonics, Konzerthalle in Berlin,  St. Patrick’s Cathedral  in New York, Palais de la musique et des Congrѐs de Strasbourg.  For two seasons he cooperated with Landesthester  Linz in Austria.  He gave concerts with numerous symphonic orchestras in Poland and abroad.

He is the professor of the  Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music  in Katowice, where he served for a year as a director of the Vocal and Acting Institute, and twice held the position of the vice dean of the Faculty.  For this term he has been appointed the dean of the Vocal and Instrumental Faculty.  Among the laureates of the Adam Didur Opera Singers’ Competition three participants were his students. He has been connected to the Competition for the last five editions, i.e. since 1994 as the Secretary of the Jury.
